Meeting tonight, March 6

Brother Knights,

A reminder of our meeting tomorrow night at 6:00 in the Wethington parish center.

As usual, lots to discuss:

  1. We hosted three great fish fries.  Great job everyone! In our meeting we will have an After Action Review to discuss what went well and where we would like to improve for next year.
  2. Lenten Mission with Father Wade Menezes March 17-20, from 7:00 to 8:00 PM.  Let’s get the word out and let’s all be present for a greater understanding of the source and summit of our Catholic faith, the Eucharist.
  3. Distribution of our funds.  We have been blessed with many profitable ministries and now it is time to give back.
    1. Father has requested new microphones for the church.  Paul will have estimates.
    2. We need some heavy duty storage shelves and bins for our Knights supplies
    3. Funding for a seminarian, which we will sponsor all the way through seminary.
    4. Any other supplies we need for cooking.  We probably need to invest in a grill as I expect we will have some cookouts after some masses this summer (e.g., burgers, hot dogs, fries after an 11:00 AM Sunday mass or after a 5:30 PM Saturday vigil mass.  Also, Parish Picnic)  We need to be self-sufficient and nimble to put together some quick, easy cookouts for our parish.
    5. Still may need tables, furniture for our Knights room.
    6. If we can, we need to support the roof fund.
    7. Other items??
  4. Planning ahead for elections in June – it is time to rotate some responsibilities.  Current officers will mentor incoming officers.  Trustees will be talking to and nominating candidates.
  5. We have a seminarian to sponsor: Didier Buwani.  I will tell you a little about him and what his needs are as he goes through Seminary.
  6. We have two new candidates we need to vote on: Don Montgomery and Chris Farris
  7. Planning on touring Assurance this coming Saturday, which is the organization that supports expecting mothers.  John will coordinate the tour with Assurance.  Invite your wives and family to come also.  We will discuss the important pieces of the Pro-Life puzzle and how we can best support Life.
  8. Appreciation gathering for our Knights and all who helped with Trivia, Fish Fries, etc., etc.  I am thinking we can meet at Giovanni’s for Pizza, Spaghetti, and Salad.
  9. Plus, our continuation of Into the Breach, Family of the month, prayers for our church members and families, and singing!

God bless you all.

Vivat Jesus!

Dave

Upcoming Valentine’s Day Dinner and Dance (Feb 10th)

Fish Fries, beginning Friday, February 16th

Plus, amazing results from Trivia Night, raising over $4000 for Safe Haven Baby Box, Family of the Month, and our monthly video from K of C: Healing in the Family.

Also, we will dedicate our Knights Room to Jerry Appleman, who was an outstanding Knight for our Council and a perfect example of Service, Charity, and Fraternity.  We will miss Brother Jerry: May he rest in peace!

PS: If some of you can come early, we need to straighten out and organize our room (missing table, pass out song books, etc.)

Hope to see everyone there!

Overview of meeting items for Wednesday, Jan 3 2024

From Grand Knight Dave Buckles:

Hello Brother Knights!

Happy New Year!  It is a short week this week and our meeting has sneaked up on us.  I hope you all can make it as we have a lot to discuss, plan, and do in the next two weeks.  Here are some highlights:

  1. Epiphany this coming weekend.  Father would like to have all three kings processing in each mass.  We need young volunteers.  Jeremy and his son, Lucias, have volunteered for the 8:30 AM, so we need one more for that mass.  We need coverage for the Saturday 5:00 PM mass and Sunday’s 11:00 AM mass.  According to Melody Ryan (Liturgy Chair) and Bill Karutz, they are looking for young people to do this.  Melody is out until January 8th, so she asked the Knights if they could help this year.  Bill Karutz is knowledgeable about this procession and can explain in the meeting what is involved, and any training needed.
  2. Cemetery of the Innocents: Setup is 9-11:00 AM this Saturday and the completion will be after the 8:30 AM mass on Sunday.  Please let us know if you can come help so we know how much coffee and donuts to bring.
  3. Trivia Night: A week from Saturday, January 13th after the 5:00 mass.  Setup & meals from 6-7:00, with Trivia starting at 7:00.  Steve has put a lot of work into this, as well as Rhonda Head and Al Dodak from Pax Christi, who have guided us and who are donating their time to help us put on this event.  We counted 8 tables reserved so far and have ~5 more names of people who have said they would like a table but have not reserved.  Here is what we need:
    1. If you are going to purchase a table, bring cash or check to Steve tomorrow night to reserve the table.  I think this is likely to be a sellout and those who have put their money down will get a table for sure.  If you don’t want an entire table but want to join a table, bring $20 for an individual ticket to reserve your place.
    2. If you are not going to purchase a table or a ticket but want to help, we are going to need about 6 volunteers: 1 to run the drinks, 1 to collect at the door, a couple of runners and a couple of miscellaneous workers to fill in the gaps, such as judging, scoring, etc.  We would like to have these people lined up tomorrow night.

We will also have the K of C “Into the Breach” tomorrow on our new 65” flat screen.  Tomorrow’s lesson is about families and is very powerful.  And don’t forget about family of the month, our CUBS drive (there is still time to bring in your coats, underwear, blankets, and socks) and our rosary for many of our members and families and friends.

Finally, we will be having an officer’s meeting soon and need to plan a night when we can meet at Giovanni’s.  Spouses are welcome.  This meeting is in appreciation for all our officers do and a little planning on our monthly calendar for 2024.

Vivat Jesus!
